Original linen cloth over printed boards. Alberto Sani (1897–1964) was an Italian woodcutter and self-taught sculptor known for his rustic, detailed relief carvings depicting rural farm life near Siena. Highlighted by art critic Bernard Berenson as "an artist out of his time," Sani was self-taught. He created intimate, tactile scenes often while struggling with blindness. Sani was known as a peasant carver who used wood to create detailed, often nostalgic depictions of local daily life. He worked largely by touch as his vision declined.
