Il Dialogo was a significant Italian-language newspaper published in the UK during the 1970s and 80s, serving as a vital cultural and political link for the growing Italian community in Britain. It functioned primarily as a community organ for the Italian diaspora in the UK, particularly those who arrived in the post-WWII migration waves. It provided a platform for discussing the social and political challenges faced by Italians abroad. Published during a decade of intense political upheaval in Italy (the Anni di Piombo or "Years of Lead"), the newspaper often reflected these tensions, offering news from Italy while also addressing UK-specific issues like labor rights and social integration. Renzo Galeotti was the art critic at il dialogo from at least 1979. His reviews included the Whitechapel’s 1982 Tina Modotti’s retrospective, the Tate’s 1984 Hans Haacke retrospective, the Rodin exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in 1986 as well as commercial gallery exhibitions such as the 1979 and 1980 Renato Guttoso exhibitions at Marlborough Fine Art, among many others.
