A significant richly illustrated academic catalogue with a detailed long introduction by the art historian Benedict Read, son of Sir Herbert Read. Read's text begins by juxtaposing Francis Derwent Wood's classically Victorian 'Atlanta' (1929) with 'Standing Woman' (1923) by his Royal College of Art student Henry Moore, going on to chart the development of British sculpture between the wars. The catalogue illustrates many lesser known or forgotten sculptors as well as the leading artists of the period.
