H. M. Percy, New Materials in sculpture. Alec Tiranti, London, 1970.

£10.00

“For very many years, the materials and techniques used in sculpture have changed very little, but the new materials which have poured out of the research laboratories during World War II and since, are of great interest to the 'young in heart' sculptor.

The first edition of this book sold out in just about twelve months. This new edition has for the main part been re-written, and many new illustrations added. In addition, new sections have been added on important new materials and techniques-namely Cold-Cure Silastomer (room temperature curing rubber), Cavityless sand casting using expanded polystyrene, and finally casting in Ciment Fondu. This last section has been written by Edward Folkard, FRBS, who taught Ciment Fondu casting for a number of years at the Royal College of Art, where he was unofficially named Professor Concrete".

This book, then, is in the nature of a challenge to sculptors to experiment with new materials and techniques, many of which give him great freedom of form and expression, and at the same time allow him to keep the job in his own hands from beginning to end.” (Publisher’s text)
