Live in Your Head. When Attitudes Become Form. ICA London 1969

£195.00

The important international survey of conceptual art conceived and curated by Harald Szeemann, representing the transition point between minimalism and conceptualism. Originally shown in Bern Switzerland, this example is the now quite scarce catalogue of the London iteration organised by Charles Harrison and shown at the ICA in 1969.

As with the catalogue for the Bern exhibition, this catalogue produced for the London iteration of the show held at the ICA September - October 1969, is published as a file folder with the sheets inserted loosely and held by a metal clasp. Each artist’s page contains a short biography , list of exhibitions, a portrait photograph and an illustration of at least one example of their work. Harald Szeemann provides the foreword and Charles Harrison and Scott Burton contribute essays.

Artists included in the publication include Carl Andre, Giovanni Anselmo, Richard Artschwager, Thomas Bang, Jared Bark, Robert Barry, Joseph Beuys, Alighiero Boetti, Mel Bochner, Marinus Boezem, Bill Bollinger, Michael Buthe, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Paul Cotton, Hanne Darboven, Jan Dibbets, Ger van Elk, Rafael Ferrer, Barry Flanagan, Ted Glass, Hans Haacke, Michael Heizer, Eva Hesse, Douglas Hueber, Paolo Icaro, Alan Jacquet, Neil Jennet, Stephen Kaltenbach, Jo Ann Kaplan, Edward Kienholz, Yves Klein, Joseph Kosuth, Jannis Kounellis, Gary B. Kuehn, Sol LeWitt, Bernd Lohaus, Richard Long, Roelof Louw, Walter de Maria, David Medalla, Mario Merz, Robert Morris, Bruce Naumann, Claes Oldenburg, Panamarenko, Pino Pascali, Paul Pechter, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Prini, Markus Raetz, Allen Ruppersberg, Rainer Ruthenbeck, Robert Ryman, Frederick Lane Sandbach, Alan Saret, Sarkis, Jean-Frederic Schnyder, Richard Serra, Robert Smithson, Keith Sonnier, Richard Tuttle, Frank Lincoln Viner, Franz Erhard Walther, William G. Wegman, Lawrence Weiner, William T. Wiley and Gilberto Zorio.

94 leaves; 24 index inserts. The first exhibition curated by Harald Szeemann, "When Attitudes Become Form" became a milestone in the history of exhibitions in the post-war period and proved groundbreaking for many subsequent exhibition concepts. The exhibition travelled from Kunsthalle Bern to the Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld (Germany) to the I.C.A. London, brought to London on the initiative of Charles Harrison, who was a writer, freelance curator and assistant editor of the magazine Studio International.
