Gillian Lowndes: New Ceramic Sculpture, Crafts Council Gallery, 1987 [SIGNED]

£60.00
Sold

Large format catalogue designed by Richard Hollis for Gillian Lowndes’ first major solo exhibition acknowledging her position at the forefront of British ceramics, held at the Crafts Council Gallery, 12 Waterloo Place, London, 28 January-29 March 1987. The exhibition, which toured regionally, showed a range of Gillian Lowndes's new work where elements of discarded debris, such as chair springs and broken cups, were patinated with glass, grog and sand. A small collection of early work gave the visitor the opportunity of tracing the potter's development. The catalogue, designed by Richard Hollis, features full page black and white photographs of the works taken by Tim Hill, and is signed by Gillian Lowndes on the back cover.

Emmanuel Cooper wrote Lowndes’ obituary which was published in the Independent on October 20, 2010 in which he describes her 1987 Crafts Council exhibition as “a revelation in demonstrating Lowndes's talent to amaze and engage with table- and wall-based pieces that combined the literal with the metaphorical, all intriguingly linked to the processes of ceramics.”
