A souvenir volume for the production of Purcell's 'The Fairy Queen' staged in 1948. The production was a triumphant return to the stage of the Royal Opera House and the Sadler's Wells Ballet after the muted productions of the second world war. Michael Ayrton designed the scenery and costumes, inspired by Inigo Jones. Frederick Ashton oversaw the choreography and Constant Lambert arranged the Purcell score and libretto. With 53 monochrome plates of photographs by Edward Mandinian, and texts by Michael Ayrton, Edward J. Dent, and Constant Lambert.
