David Lewis was a South African-born poet and architect and husband of the artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham between 1949 and 1956 (the marriage was formally annulled in 1963.) The couple were prominent figures in the post-war St Ives circle. This early study of Brancusi’s work is highly regarded.
