An uncommon Arp monograph published by the great London bookseller and publisher Antoine Zwemmer who had supported Arp and the work of the Abstraction-Creation group since the 1930s. With 32 black and white plates and an essay by artist, art critic, poet and writer Michel Seuphor (born Fernand Berckelaers in Antwerp in 1901, he adopted the pseudonym 'Michel Seuphor' (an anagram for 'Orpheus') in 1917.) Seuphor quotes an essay by Arp in which he compares the artistic process to the gentle coaxing of a cloud: “He that wants to shoot down a cloud with arrows, will waste his arrows in vain. […] For a cloud one should fiddle something on a drum, or drum something on a fiddle. Then it won't be long before the cloud comes down of itself, rolls on the ground for happiness, and eventually is obliging enough to turn into stone.” Typography and cover design by Otto Treuman,(1919-2001) a major pioneer in the modernisation of graphic design in the Netherlands.
