





H.A. Day, Photographs. – Travel in Madrid, Naples, Rome & Florence. Circa 1885.
Oblong folio, 28 x 37 cm, bound in red buckram boards with gilt titles. Includes 15 colour chromolithographs of bull fights by the famed publishers, Francisco Boronat y Satorre, Madrid, after paintings by Daniel Perea (1834–1909). Followed by 46 tipped-in photographs (some hand-coloured) including 4 of Naples and Vesuvius by the important early Italian photographer Giorgio Sommer (1834–1914) dated 1880/81.
The first 15 plates depict in chronological order the ritual of the bullfight, from the capture of the bulls [Encierro de Los Toros] to their demise and removal from the bull ring by mules [Las Mullilas Sacando al Toro]. Captions in Spanish, French and English, produced at the approximate time Manet painted his bull fight scenes. A rare piece of Tauromacy.
